  Current Competitions

Senior Mooting

Senior Mooting is one of the most established and well-respected competitions in law school. This competition gives students the opportunity to develop advanced legal analysis, structured argumentation, and oral advocacy skills.

Competitors prepare an appeal from a lower court decision and present their submissions before a judge, responding to questions and challenges in real time. This competition sharpens your ability to think on your feet, and engage directly with opposing arguments.

Witness Examination

Witness Examination (Wit-X) is a solo practical advocacy competition designed to develop courtroom-focused skills in a trial-style setting. The competition allows students to practise both examination-in-chief and cross-examination while building a coherent case theory and strategy.

Competitors learn how to question witnesses effectively, control the narrative of a case, and obtain the evidence they need while adhering to the rules. Wit-X sharpens persuasive technique, strategic thinking, and confidence in oral advocacy, making it an excellent foundation for students interested in litigation and trial practice.

   Prefer to Volunteer?

Volunteering as a timekeeper or witness offers the opportunity to observe how competitions operate and hear judges’ feedback firsthand, without the pressure of competing. Register your interest here.

  Competition Handbooks
